Background of the Study
Digital storytelling platforms have emerged as innovative tools for both preserving and researching indigenous languages. In Igbo, these platforms facilitate the collection and dissemination of oral narratives, cultural histories, and contemporary experiences (Nwachukwu, 2023). The integration of multimedia storytelling with computational linguistic methods has opened new avenues for language analysis, enabling researchers to extract linguistic patterns, analyze discourse structures, and preserve endangered oral traditions. Digital storytelling provides rich data for NLP applications such as sentiment analysis, topic modeling, and speech recognition. These platforms bridge traditional oral literature with modern technology, contributing to both language preservation and academic research (Chukwu, 2024). However, the effective utilization of digital storytelling in computational linguistics remains underexplored. This study investigates the impact of digital storytelling platforms on computational linguistic research in Igbo, examining how these platforms enhance data collection, linguistic analysis, and cultural preservation (Okafor, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
While digital storytelling platforms have shown promise in preserving Igbo culture, their impact on computational linguistic research is not well-documented. Existing studies often focus on the cultural aspects of storytelling without evaluating its contribution to language data analysis (Nwachukwu, 2023). This gap limits our understanding of how these platforms can be optimized for computational research, affecting the development of advanced NLP tools and language preservation strategies (Chukwu, 2024).
Objectives of the Study
Research Questions
Significance of the Study
This study is significant as it bridges digital storytelling with computational linguistics, demonstrating how innovative platforms can enhance language research and preservation in Igbo. The findings will benefit digital humanists, linguists, and cultural preservationists by providing strategies to optimize data collection and analysis, thereby strengthening efforts to document and revitalize Igbo.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to digital storytelling platforms for Igbo and focuses on computational linguistic applications, excluding broader cultural analysis.
